Why glass bottles are a much better option than plastic bottles
Plastic bottles are a nightmare when it comes to recycling. Only 1% of plastic is actually recycled, while the rest ends up in the ocean or at landfills. To make matters worse, it takes around 200 years for a plastic bottle to decompose!
Owing to its non degradable nature, it is estimated that there will be more weight of plastic in the oceans than fish by 2050!
This is the reason why glass is generally considered a better alternative to plastic. Even though glass is bulkier and more difficult to transport, it’s 100% recyclable.
However, there are various other reasons which make glass better than plastic:
Glass is Longer-Lasting
Glass is generally longer lasting than plastic as it does not wear out with use. This means a glass bottle can be used again and again without any degradation, while plastic bottles wear out after a few uses. Glass bottles can also be used to store hot and cold products, without any risk of toxins seeping in.
This is also the reason why glass can be recycled indefinitely. Even broken pieces of glass can be recycled in plants in order to manufacture other glass materials.
Preservation of the Product
Glass packaging plays an important role in preserving the integrity and the flavor of the product. Glass is tasteless and odorless, which makes it completely neutral to the two main senses. However, this isn’t the case with plastic.
Plastic has been known to omit a chemical taste into the product, whether it is food or medicine. This greatly affects the integrity of the product, leading to lower quality. There has also been a long-standing debate about whether a drink tastes better in a glass bottle or a plastic bottle. This is mainly because glass plays a vital role in preserving the flavor of the product, whether it is a beverage or an e-liquid.
Sanitation
For packaging of beverages and pharmaceutical products, it’s vital to have the bottles sanitized. Glass can be sanitized at high temperatures without having to worry about melts or deterioration of the plastic. If the plastic deteriorates, it will leech faster into the product, leading to serious health problems.
Clean Up the Planet
Using glass bottles is a great way to clean up the planet. Plastic ends up in landfill sites and oceans and has very inefficient recycling processes. Since plastic is not bio-degradable, it also leeches harmful chemicals into the soil.
Using glass as an alternative is a good way to help clean up the landfill sites and the oceans.
