The different types of packer bottle resins

There are two types of resins used in the manufacturing of packer bottles:

• High density polyethylene (HDPE)
• Polyethylene terephthalate (PET)

HDPE packer bottles are known for being economical. Theyoffer high impact resistance andexcellent moisture barrier protection. They are also available in food-grade variety which makes them ideal for packaging pet food.

However, they also carry some limitations.

• First and foremost, they are not compatible with solvents.
• Secondly, they cannot be used with products requiring a vacuum seal, or products filled above 71°C.

PET packer bottles offer many useful features, such as high visibility and a good surface for printing, which gives them an edge over HDPE bottles from marketing perspective. They are available in different colors and are ideal for packaging light-sensitive products.

Here are some other benefits PET packer bottles provide:

• Good chemical resistance
• High tensile strength
• Good barrier properties for solvents and liquids

It must be noted though, PET packer bottles do not offer a high temperature resistance as HDPE bottles.
