Make Your Own Delicious DIY Lip Balm!

Chapped lips are a sign of bad hygiene. It doesn’t leave a good impression on your personal and professional life. Lip balms are a life savior when it comes to moisturizing your lips. They nourish your lips, smell great and can be expensive if you reapply frequently. Many cosmetic companies add harsh chemicals in their products leaving your skin drier. It also increases the urge to reapply your lippy after every few minutes. UFC Que-choisir, a French organization, conducted several experiments on lip balms concluding that many chemicals present in these products are carcinogenic.

To go all natural, try making a chemical free product yourself. Make your own lip balm following the steps mentioned below:

What You Need:

  • Good quality beeswax
  • Moisturizing oil preferably coconut oil
  • Honey
  • Your favorite essential oil (preferably lemon)
  • A delicious flavored gelatin

Melt the Wax And Oil:

Heat your wax to melt it and mix in the oil. You can either microwave the wax in a heat-safe container for about 30 seconds or use the double boiler method. Alternatively you could heat water in a pan and place your bowl of wax on top of it. The hot steam from the boiling water will melt your wax in a minute.

Adding a Flavor:

Once the solid components have converted into liquid, it’s time to add some flavor. Add fruity gelatin like strawberry or raspberry to give your lip balm to get a beautiful fragrance and delicious taste. After adding gelatin, mix it well or blend it. Now place the mixture in the microwave again or heat it in a double boiler in order to melt the gelatin. You should observe a change in color by now. In case of raspberry gelatin, a deep red color would be seen which will also provide a slight tint to your pout when applied.

Final Touches:

Add an essential oil of your choice to add fragrance to your lip balm. This step while enhance the moisturizing effect and leave your lips smooth and well nourished. You can add lemon oil for a fruity smell but if you like floral fragrances; go for lavender or rose hip oil.

Your lip balm is ready to be transferred to a container. Select a compact container to carry it easily with yourself. Refrigerate it for a couple of hours and you are good to go.
